Here's how to gain and spend Experience in The Dark Dream.
Gaining Experience
Game will be held once a month. You will gain XP for the following things:
- 2 Points for attendance
- 1 Point for showing up on time
- 1 Point for coming in appropriate costume/makeup
- 1 Point for exceptionally roleplaying your character's flaws
- 1 Point for shuttling players to game / orchestrating carpooling (this does not include significant others and is basically at staff discretion)
- 1 Point for bringing a new player to game (After the first game, if they become a frequently player at ST discretion a second XP will be awarded later)
- 1 Point for Traveling to CT to play in The New Dream
- ? Points for ST and Player Nods (a variant number up, which can be as many as will complete your monthly maximum)
Scaled Experience System
To represent an appropriate character growth curve, we use a sliding scale XP system. The system works with a cap for the maximum amount of XP a character can receive per month. Most months a PC will not earn their maximum XP; in the event that they earn more than their maximum, the excess XP does not carry over month to month.
If a character has less than 80 XP: Max of 8 XP a month
If a character has between 80 and 140 XP: Max of 6 XP a month
If a character has between 140 and 180 XP: Max of 4 XP a month
If a character has between 180 and up: Max of 2 XP a month
XP that has not been spent does not carry over to a new PC in the event of character death.
Spending Experience
While there is an admin and sign-in desk at game, it is not for spending experience. Experience spends should be sent by email to moc.liamg|ffatsmaerdkrad#moc.liamg|ffatsmaerdkrad with the subject "Experience: CHARACTER NAME". We will send you a reply email once your spend has been logged.
- You can only buy one trait in any category per game (so, one Mental, one Physical, one Social - but not three Socials in one downtime session).
- Realms function in a similar way: you can buy only one from any given category per downtime.
- As far as Arts and Abilities go: You have to declare your intention to learn one of these things ahead of time. It will take a number of downtimes (months) equal to the level of what you're trying to learn. So while learning Melee 1 or "Willow Whisper" would take you one month, Melee 5 or Holly Strike would take a whole five months to master.
